Aim
The main goal is to enhance knowledge, skills and capacity of 35 youth workers and youth leaders from 17 different countries, equip them with skills and knowledge to design and implement social action projects as well as, tackle global problem of youth participation in democratic and social life.
Description
Active citizenship in democratic society is more than a duty to vote every 4 or 5 years. It also includes such notions as value of citizens’ participation in civil society organizations and social movements, student participation in the governance of schools and universities, as well as democratic participation in family life. Unfortunately, youth participation in political process is decreasing in recent history and it represents a lot of threats to democracy not only on national but also on European level.
Societies across the world need influential youth leaders equipped with skills and good knowledge who will raise awareness about the importance of active participation. Contemporary young people volunteer more than old ones do, they are much better educated and they are less likely to drink excessively or use drugs than previous generations of youth. However, that does not seem like a remedy for this political and social apathy around the world. What we need is to raise awareness among youth and encourage them to be involved actively in democratic and social life.
